You might have seen him and his incredibly cool superhero moves on the big screen in Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings, but just how well do you really know Simu Liu? Get to know your 2022 JUNOS host before he takes the stage for Canada’s Biggest Night in Music on May 15th.
Before gracing our screens with his charm and acting prowess, Simu Liu worked a range of jobs before kick starting his acting career after being let go from his accounting job. From being a stock image mode to a stunt double and occasional Spider-Man for childrens’ birthday parties, the actor has definitely had his fair share of odd jobs (but who among us hasn’t).
Years before being cast as the titular character in Marvel Studios’ Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings, Simu was just a fan of Marvel movies like many of us. When rumours of bringing Shang-Chi to the silver screen circulated in 2018, the actor expressed his interest in the role in a now infamous tweet to Marvel.
OK @Marvel, are we gonna talk or what #ShangChi

In a post to his followers, the actor revealed that he wrote a book chronicling his family’s journey as Chinese immigrants to Canada. His memoir, “We Were Dreamers: An Immigrant Superhero Origin Story,” will be released by HarperCollins in May 2022.
While filming a dog adventure movie in the Dominican Republic, Simu rescued a pup named Chopa who occasionally features in some adorable Instagram posts. There also might be a video on the internet of the actor doing an interview surrounded by dogs for all the animal (and Simu) lovers out there.
It might be Simu’s first time hosting but he’s actually had previous experience on the JUNO Awards stage. In 2019, Simu was joined by JUNO nominated rapper KILLY in presenting the Group of the Year Award.
He was once part of a band called LX4 with his high school friends and clearly has a knack for singing. If you follow him on Instagram, you might occasionally be treated to the stars’ vocal skills along with some guitar and piano playing. Additionally, you can listen to him on the track “Hot Soup” from the Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings soundtrack.
Now that we know a little more about the multi-hyphenate talent that is Simu Liu, we’re even more excited to see him host this year’s JUNOS! Catch Simu Liu host The 2022 JUNO Awards on May 15, live at Budweiser Stage. Tickets go on sale March 4th at 10 a.m.
